This pullover takes 4 skeins of Cascade Magnum for a size 36" or 42" finished garment. Gauge is 1.5 stitches to an inch on size 19 needles. We suggest you use a thinner, stronger yarn in a matching color for your seams, rather than trying to seam with the bulky wool. Note that this pattern makes sleeves which are slightly shorter than those shown in the picture.
Back: Cast on 28 (32) stitches and either work 7 rows in 1x1 rib and 35 rows in stockinette, or just work 42 rows in stockinette, depending on whether you want a ribbed or rolled hem.
Shape neckline: Knit 8 (9) stitches. Place center 8 (10) stitches on a holder. Join a new ball of yarn, knit across other shoulder. Turn and work to 2 sts before neck edge; p2tog. Working other shoulder, p2tog, p to end of row. Turn work. Knit to neck edge. Working other shoulder, knit from neck edge to shoulder. Turn work. P to neck edge. Working other shoulder, p from neck edge to shoulder. Place all shoulder stitches on holders.
Front: Work as for back until 40 rows have been completed.
Shape neckline for front: Work 9 (10) stitches, place center 6 (8) stitches on a holder. Join a new ball of yarn, knit to end of row. Turn work. P to 2 sts before neck edge; p2tog. Working other shoulder, p2tog, p to end of row. Turn work. Knit to 2 sts before neck edge, k2tog. Working other shoulder, k2tog, k to end of row. Work back and forth on both shoulders with no decreases for three more rows. You should be ending ready for a RS row.
Take left shoulder stitches (on back) and put on a needle. Using the 3-needle bind off, seam the left shoulder.
Neckline: Pick up and knit 36 (40) stitches around neck edge. Working back and forth, do a k1p1 rib, or stockinette, depending on whether you want a ribbed or rolled collar, for 8 rows. Bind off neck stitches loosely.
Take right shoulder stitches (on back) and put on a needle. Using the 3-needle bind off, seam the right shoulder.
Sleeves: lay work open and flat so it stretches from left to right in front of you. Pick up 38 stitches along the upper edge (19 to each side of the shoulder seam) and work downward to sleeve cuff. Work in stockinette, decreasing one stitch each side of the sleeve every other row until 30 stitches remain. Work 1x1 rib for 8 rows if you are doing ribbed cuffs, or for stockinette just work 8 rows back and forth with no decreases. Bind off. Repeat for other sleeve.
Seam sleeve and side seams. Seam neck. Weave in ends and you're done!
