This super easy garter stitch cardigan takes four skeins of any bulky yarn for size 17 needles. Written for a finished garment size of 60" chest, it's a perfect "throw on and go" jacket for fall. Gauge is again 1.5 stitches to the inch on size 17 needles. I just love these thick yarns!. My coat has no closure, but you could easily put on a big funky button at the neck and button it through one of the stitches, since they are so big.
Back: Cast on 50 stitches. Knit every row until the length is as desired (mine is 28" but you may want to go shorter or longer). Bind off all stitches.
Right front: Pick up 24 stitches at shoulder. Work back and forth, increasing one stitch at neck edge every row 14 times. Work even until right front is the same length as back. Bind off all stitches.
Left front: Pick up 24 stitches at left shoulder. Work same as right shoulder, but reversing stitch pattern. Bind off all stitches.
Sleeves: Pick up 32 stitches at armhole (16 each side of shoulder seam). Knit back and forth even for 30 rows. Next row: K2tog all the way around. Next row: bind off all stitches. Repeat for other sleeve.
Sew sleeve and side seams. Weave in ends. THAT IS IT! If your neckline is uneven you may want to add a crab-stitch crocheted border around it, but I didn't bother. I'll have a picture here soon.
