Bulky Yarn Pullover

Choose a yarn that knits at 1.5 stitches per inch on size 17 or 19 needles.   This is written for a large size (44") finished garment.  You will need about 500 yards of yarn.  I seem to have lost the picture for this pattern, and I donated the sweater to a local charity.  Sorry about that!

Back: Cast on 36 sts. Knit in stockinette until the piece measures 12". Place markers for underarms. Continue in stockinette st until piece measures 21". Bind off all stitches.

Front: Work as for back until piece measures 18".

Shape neckline: Work 15 sts, attach a second ball of yarn, bind off center 6 sts, work to end of row. Working both shoulders at the same time, decrease 1 st at each neck edge every other row twice. Continue until front measures 21". Bind off all shoulder stitches. Seam to back.

Sleeves: Cast on 12 sts. Working in st st, increase 1 st each side every four rows four times, then every 5 rows six times. Continue until sleeve measures 16" or desired length. Bind off all sts.

Neck: Using dpn's in your needle size, pick up and knit 30 sts around neckline until mock neck is 3 or 4 inches long (your preference). Bind off all stitches.

Sew sleeves into marked armhole area. Sew side and sleeve seams. That's it!
