Layered-Look Superior Sweater

 Needles: 2.5,  2.5  Size: 48  Gauge:  6 sts  10 rws per 1"  Estimated Ydg: 2110

 Yarn:  Filatura di Crosa Superior in Periwinkle(MC); angora in cream (CC).

With body needle, cast on 324 sts.  Place marker, join.

With body needle, work 162 sts, place side marker.   Complete round.

Work entire body in MC.

Continue working as follows:  Dec 1 st each side of markers, every 52 rnd/rnds, 3x. [156 back sts].  Divide for front & back.

Work 162 sts for back. Place rem sts on hold for front. Work back sts in  estab pat until piece meas 28" [row 280].

Bind off 54 shoulder sts. Bind off 48 back neck sts. Bind off 54 shoulder sts.

Front

Slip front sts from holder. Work in estab pat and, at the same time when piece meas 24.5" [row 244], begin neck shaping.

Work to center 16 sts, attach another ball of yarn, bind off center 16 sts, complete row. Work both sides at once.

Bind off 2 sts at each neck edge 4 x.  Dec 1 st at each neck edge, every other row 8x.

Continue until piece meas 28" [row 280].

Work shoulder as for back.

Go back to the hem.  With MC and WS facing, pick up stitches all around the hem, about 1” above the hem curl.  Immediately switch to CC and knit 40 rows, then bind off.  This provides the underneath layer effect.

Sleeves

With CC, cast on 70 sts. Place marker, join.

Work 1 rnd.

Continuing in CC, inc 1 st on each side of marker every 2nd rnd 34x, then every 4th rnd 3x.  Continue until piece meas 9"[round 90]. Bind off 144 sts.

Standard Neck Finishing

With MC and WS facing, pick up 134 sts around neck edge.   Inc or dec as necessary on the first row to balance pattern.   Immediately switch to CC and work in stockinette for 2".   Bind off loosely.

Seam sleeves to drops underneath with MC.  Weave in all ends.  Steam garment to block, especially at edges of dropped sleeve, MC color.
